CNS Loren Martin Hintz Travel Writing Scholarship
The CNS Loren Martin Hintz Travel Writing Scholarship annually awards $1,000 to a Milwaukee writer based on the year’s 800-word essay theme.
This scholarship is an annual tribute to the award-winning career of Loren Martin Hintz, who traveled around the world capturing unique people and moments in words and photographs. Steve Hintz, the son of Martin Hintz, approached Carvd N Stone to start the scholarship in 2022. You do not have to be a student to apply.

Tips to Make Your Essay Stand Out
Submit an 800-word PDF, double-spaced, 12-pt Times New Roman, with an engaging title and your full name
Follow the rules.
Show your voice.
Write in complete sentences, be grammatically correct, and let your personality shine.
Revise and get feedback.
Ask peers, teachers, parents, mentors, or whoever you confide in to review your essay before submitting.
Tell a story.
This scholarship is solely based on writing and storytelling, so don’t just answer the theme. Share an experience that helps us feel like we know you.
Take your time.
Don’t rush to submit. Sit with your essay, then come back to it with fresh eyes.

The Carvd N Stone Travel Writing Scholarship is an annual award created to support emerging writers and journalists. It recognizes powerful storytelling and provides financial support to help recipients continue their education or creative journey.

Applicants must be between the ages of 17 and 29 and reside in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Additional eligibility requirements may apply based on the application guidelines for the current year.

The selected recipient will receive a $1,000 check, a plaque with their name, and be recognized at the Carvd N Stone Foundation’s annual ceremony and celebration event.

Yes, applicants may reapply in future years as long as they continue to meet eligibility requirements and have not previously won the scholarship.
